I am pleased and honored to announce my candidacy for Westwood’s Town Council. While I have held no prior political office, I have been very involved in our community as a Recreation Advisory Board Member, a volunteer and committee chair in the Brookside PTO, and a community enthusiast volunteer for many events including coaching my son’s soccer team and teaching a children’s fitness class for the Westwood Library’s Summer Reading Kickoff in 2016.
Volunteering has been a large part of my life, starting from childhood when during my elementary school years I would read books to seniors at a local nursing home. As a teenager I volunteered for the ASPCA, which led, years later, to fostering dogs for Eleventh Hour Rescue. I spent several years as a volunteer marathon coach and participant for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training in an effort to help raise funds to find a cure.
Westwood holds a special place in my heart as I spent so many years in and out of this wonderful town. My family moved to Westwood in the 1950s. My mother and her siblings were born and raised here. Some of my best memories are walking to Conrad’s with my aunts and having my first ice cream soda, playing kickball in the street with all the neighborhood kids, and just the overall sense of community that was so strong.
As a mom, I want to preserve our community. I want my son to feel the same family oriented, and safe sense of community I have always felt. Westwood is a great town, and my goal is to act in the best interest of our town and its bright future. Through collaboration with the community, the various boards in town, and the governing body, I want to be the catalyst for growth and progress, while keeping the values we all hold for our town. I believe I am capable of meeting that challenge and look forward to the work ahead.
